I am so happy to post about my first good size project that cost 0 dollars.
ZERO DOLLARS!!!!!
I don’t consider myself cheap, that’s not a nice word.
I prefer frugal.
Or thrifty.
Or sensible.
So to do a project that we actually needed for no money at all was so exciting.
The lameness of that just hit me as I typed it. But it’s true, it was thrilling.
I got this bureau from a neighbor who was dumping it. It was actually out to his curb when I spotted it.
The missing drawer immediately gave me the idea to turn it into a media center like these:

I first used a liquid deglosser, then used primer meant for glossy surfaces.
Next I used the enamel paint I had left over from Devon’s new desk.
I took two coats and a little patience, especially when it came to this detailed section:
Next I cut some wood I had on hand to rest on the inside lip where the two top drawers used to be. I cut the notch to fit in the middle section.
You can see in the back that I also had to cut a whole in each section for the DVD and VCR cords.
Yes, I still have a VCR. And while we are on the topic, don’t make fun of my TV when you see it.
I used the same spray paint from the desk project to spray the handles as well. Sometimes it really is a good thing to have a garage full of paint, primer and spray paint!
So for absolutely no money I went from this:
To this:
Picture below shows a more accurate color.
When my neighbor found me trash picking, he offered a few more pieces of furniture, and of course I said yes!
This small piece is from the same set so I gussied her up as well and threw her in the corner.
I’m saving pennies for a new couch and TV and that will really change the look of the space!
And when I get a TV from this millennium I may now need this Tv stand but that’s the great thing about it being free, no guilt if I need to get rid of it!
It’s perfect for now.
Did I mention that this was made for zero dollars??
xx
